LET'S GET SMART
Ah! There's the rub.
so, many in here disagree with many aspects of science because they go against their own personal beliefs.
so lets all get smarter here and do some research.
if you have something that you dont agree with science because it goes against what your religion tell us and lets all do some research about it.. if we cant find any evidence of it we will switch to disagree with science.
LET'S GET SMART
Ah! There's the rub.
earlier today i made a comment on a thread about how i perceive a poster.. my perception is mine and mine alone.
i am responsible for it.
how i perceive what someone posts to me is also my responsibility.. if i have a run-in with someone on the board there is a good chance the next time i see that person post something i don't like i will add my past perception to their post.. for example: let's say poster xyzzz told me off.
Lady Lee This is one of the most interesting threads in a long time. I have enjoyed your thoughtful comments and those of others who have contributed. You do a good job.
At times I have been rough with kind people and felt regret. At other times it has been appropriate to draw my sword. Sometimes my intentions are misunderstood. Perhaps dressing as a gladiator makes people defensive? Now before posting, I ask, how my post will affect the person it is addressed to? How will it make me feel? What is my motive for commenting. Arguing does not lead to inner peace. Showing kindness and empathy does.
I try not to use the forum as a vehicle for my own negative emotions. Being human I still sometimes fail. We all have unconcious forces at work within us. By their very nature, we are the last to realize the effect they are having on us and those we inflict them on. Everything we do or say has a 'sense' to it - that is a hidden meaning or agenda. (Freud)
Over the years I have had heavy debates with some wonderful Christians, some of whom have now left. It is due to those debates that I have been able to be more open minded. I have at last taken on board their message, that for them, Christianity is about love and kindness and I see the benefit this has bought to them as people. I'm more interested in how a person treats me and others, than the spiritual path they have chosen to walk.
As has been said, once we seek to accommodate everyones personal understanding, debate become pointless and the mental stimulus that it affords is absent. Attempting to be agreeable all the time can become boring and pointless for all involved. This is a dilema. For most people who have been here a while their reason for coming here has changed over the years. That is certainly true for me, causing me to seriously question my reason for being here. Time will tell!

well, the predecessor thread really invoked some emotions, didn't it?
good and bad.

You want to utterly dismiss what I share. You want to completely and unequivocally reject what I state.
Dear Shelby. Once again you misunderstand me. I have no 'want' to dismiss anything or unequivocally reject what you state. I strive to be open minded and have this very week, been accused of sitting on the fence and avoiding conflict. And quite right too.
I see you as a person with a specific agenda which I am unable to embrace. I also see you as a person who has a brittle approach to life. Brittle things can break and I feel concern for you.
Nevertheless my attempts to converse with you and establish common ground seem fruitless. You believe you have a special calling and that common ground is beneath you. You may one day find to your cost that it really is.
.
does your spiritual paradise require a 15-chapter manual on kicking people out?.
if so, you might want to upgrade your religion.
My spiritual paradise requires kicking everybody out.
I need space to chill out.

This thread is called 'Why It Matters...'
It's excuse for being, is to promote the importance of the singular divine name and caution other Christians on their use of the name Jesus. Indeed, the reason for their not hearing the lord's voice is that they are calling out to the wrong name.
Instead of promoting JAHESHUA MISCHAJAH the thread is a self promotion for Shelby/AGuest/Slave of the Lord and house of Israel.
Once again it's all about Shelby. Fair and even handed as I strive to be - I remain confused...

Thank you for your extremely long reply to my post. My intention was to help you understand why you receive the abuse you do, in order to make your threads on this forum less of a battle zone. That is why I suggested, "Perhaps you could get your message across more successful if you gave consideration to comments that people make about your style of delivery?" It was just a question, not an attempt to silence you.
Alas it seems that my words did not convey my intention to you and have been misunderstood. It's my own fault. I was not instructed by any invisible spirit to communicate with you, I alone am responsible for what I say on this forum.
I should mind my own business and leave you in peace, to continue publicizing your views, or your Lord's as you would have it, in your own unique way. I can only repeat the words that I closed my post to you with. "So you see, I bear you no ill-will and hope you receive a more gentle ride in the weeks ahead."
do you think it has superpowers?
who controlls it?
satan?
Being a gladiator I am afraid of nothing except perhaps cyberjesus.
All board games bore me.
for those who've had god put something "into your heart", please describe the experience.
please be as vague or specific as you'd like to be.. .
was it unmistakable?.
God has put peace and faith into my heart.
That comes through in all your posts Tammy.
some people accuse atheists of not being open minded for not believing in the existence of a creator.
but is not believing a sign of close mindedness?
can you believe in god and be open minded?.
cyberjesus
Are you avoiding confrontation. is that it?
A very astute observation!
caliber
No we're having a wonderful open minded discussion without taking personal offense...
Ah - this is the beginning of wisdom. The portal to an adventure that enjoys the unknown and often unexpected.
I have learned that it is not the swift that win the race or the mighty that win the battle but those who find peace without war.

So really being agnostic is detrimental to my health, I need to move on over to the believer category based on
my own empirical evidence.
Finding what works for you is a personal responsibility. I am pleased you have found a way that suits your needs.

cyberjesus Can you expand on what sitting on the fence means? and its advantages?
Sitting on the fence is about taking the time I need to arrive at my destination. Not somewhere I need or desire to be but where my journey takes me. It's about being free of defending a particular belief that is likely will change in time anyway.
Its about not needing to be right or convince other that I all the answers. Birds sit on the fence watching for the right opportunity to take flight. I watch the robin in my garden and he has taught me a lot.
